The Vindolanda Roman excavations are back for 2021. The archaeologists and small teams of volunteers will be out Mon - Fri weather permitting. See history as it is uncovered.
22nd May - 26th September
Dress your favourite bear or plush as an emperor for the day and bring them out to meet our Emperor Ted bears at the museums. Join us on the 10th July for Teddy Bears Picnic in the gardens.
12th-13th & 26-27th June 2021
A look at the tents the Romans would have used and in particular the tent pegs using the Vindolanda collection of artefacts, as well as a replica camp with tent and a chance to see what food might have been available for the soldiers.

A temporary exhibition at the Roman Army Museum showing an assembly of militiary artefacts never seen in pulbic which are on private loan to the Vindolanda Trust.

Join our Roman Chef John Crouch as he introduces us to the Roman diet. What did the Roman soldiers eat to keep them strong and what would you miss if you lived in the Roman times?
7th & 8th August 2021
Both sites welcome back the world famous Ermine Street Guard. Demonstrations and displays, Roman army school, learn about life in the Roman army and see Vindolanda brought to life.
