Friends Day 2026

This event is a way to say thank you to all our Friends of Vindolanda members for their support and to share the news from across the Trust. 

The Friends gathering for 2026 will held at 5pm on Friday 11th September at the Roman Army Museum.

The days events will take place across both our sites. 

Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum:

9:30 - 4pm - Vindolanda excavations will be taking place and we encourage our friends to visit the team and find out the most recent updates from the site. Updated exhibitions will be available to view in our activity centre and see the recent find case update in the museum.

Roman Army Museum & Magna Fort:

9:30 - 4pm - Magna excavations taking place on the fort,

In the Yurt:

Explore the Mani Kambo x Zig Zag Days exhibition where the group and Mani have created a new contemporary art installation in the landscape of Magna Roman Fort.

In the Gardens:

5pm - Gathering of the Friends for a photo and a welcome and short update from CEO & Director of Excavations Dr Andrew Birley before walking across to the excavation site for a tour of the Magna excavations.

Please make sure you arrive before 4:30pm to gain access through the main admissions building, and to see the exhibition in the yurt and the recent finds case in the Museum. The cafe will close at 5pm.

If you are not yet a Friend of Vindolanda you can become one! The Friends Membership comes with access to both Roman Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum, 10% discount in our museum shops (excluding alcohol), an annual update with our Friends report and an invitation to the annual Friends gathering.
