Archaeological Assistant (Fixed term contract) 

The Vindolanda Trust has an exciting fixed term archaeological job opportunity for 2020.

We are seeking a personable and reliable archaeological assistant with a ‘can do attitude’ to undertake various aspects of excavation and post-excavation work, including volunteer supervision, post-excavation duties, surveying and public engagement. They will work as part of the existing archaeological team on site and will help the volunteer excavators and post-excavators achieve the aims set out for them.

The successful candidate will assist in delivering the excavation and post-excavation aspects of the research programme at Vindolanda. This involves a considerable volunteer input and retains high professional standards through strong leadership, tactful management and sound archaeological practice.

Duties will include aiding the archaeological team as required, such as by taking on the delegated supervision of a group of volunteer excavators and work with staff involved with on-site post-excavation activities.

Start Date : 23rd March 2020. 

End Date : 2nd October 2020. 

Remuneration : £18,500 pro rata paid monthly by BACS.

Digitisation Project Officer

The Vindolanda Trust is seeking an organised and enthusiastic person to assist with the delivery of the Digitising Vindolanda’s Wooden Collection Project. Working with the Trust’s Curator, the successful applicant will catalogue and record a unique part of the Vindolanda collection and make it available to share with our visitors in our museums and online.  

The main responsibilities for this post will include data curation and input of the Vindolanda wooden collection, working with the team at Vindolanda to develop and run the volunteer programme attached to the project, working with visiting specialist and other digitization projects and sharing the knowledge gained during the project through sharing days, outreach, conferences and publication.

Place of Work: Vindolanda’s Chesterholm Museum, NE47 7JN

Full time: 40 hours

Salary: £22,500

Contract Type: Fixed term 2 years from March 2020.
