How much does it cost to visit?

2023/2024 Season 

Great news! Our 2023 prices are staying the same for 2024!

The table below shows our standard ticket prices for 2023/2024. The SAVER Ticket gives one visit to both Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum and the Roman Army Museum - you don't have to visit both attractions on the same day.

Child: aged 5-18 (if in full time education).

Family: 2 adults and up to 3 children.

Are Roman Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum at the same site?

No - our two museums are 7 miles apart.  We recommend allowing 1.5 hours at the Roman Army Museum and 2+ hours at Vindolanda. When planning your day allow for a 15 minute travel time between the two sites (by car).

We suggest you allow at least 2 hours for a visit to Vindolanda. Some our of visitors can happily stay for 4+ hours so please leave yourselves enough time to explore.

Roman Army Museum (CA8 7JB)

We estimated the average visit to the Roman Army Museum to be 1.5 hours. This is an all indoors museum looking at the life of Roman soldiers on Hadrian's Wall. Between April & September you can also see live archaeology taking place at the adjacent Magna Roman Fort.

Can I arrive without advance booking?

You can arrive whenever you like within our normal opening times - there will be no requirement to book a specific time in advance.

I'm coming with friends/family members who don't want to see the museum(s), can they just use the cafe & toilets?

All of our museum facilities such as the cafe, shop and toilets are for ticket holders only. Everyone who uses those facilities must have an admission ticket. 

With a Saver Ticket do I have to visit both sites on the same day?

You don't have to visit both sites on the same day if you have booked a Saver Ticket. The second part of your ticket is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

Do I need to print my booking confirmation/tickets?

No, you don't need to print them. If you have them on your mobile device we can scan the QR code from your phone or tablet. It is however your responsibility to have proof of your ticket purchase or Friends Membership with you to gain entry to the attractions. Please contact us before you visit if you are unable to locate your tickets.

I have booked my tickets but I haven't received a confirmation email.

Please check your junk or spam folders as our website sends the email they can sometimes end up there. If you still are unable to find your confirmation you can email [email protected] and ask for a receipt to be emailed.

Do I need to wear a mask?

We encourage everyone to follow the latest guidance on mask wearing while inside our museums. 

Can I bring my dog?

Only registered assistance dogs are allowed.  We recommend that you leave your pets at home when visiting our sites.

What facilities are open?

All the facilities such as our exhibitions, cafes, toilets and shops at both Roman Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum are open. Our cafes close 1 hour before our museum closing time to enable a full clean to take place. Museum shops close 15 minutes before the main museum closes.

My child has a Blue Peter Badge, can they get in free?

Yes! The good news is that children with Blue Peter badges do receive free entry to both Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. Don't forget to bring it with you to get your free ticket on arrival.

We have decided not to visit, can we get a refund?

Our admission tickets are not refundable. Unredeemed tickets are however valid for 12 months from the date of purchase so we hope you can visit us within that generous window. 

What are the rules on photography?

Taking photographs is allowed within our museum* but flash photography and the use of tripods is prohibited. 

*Photography and filming are not allowed inside the film theatre at the Roman Army Museum

We do not allow the use of drones at our sites.
