How to visit Vindolanda Roman Fort and Museum and the Roman Army Museum.

This page will take you through the new systems we have in place for visiting our sites, what is open and how to visit. We will continue to update this page with new information as soon as we have changes.

From Friday 17th July we will reopen both sites 7 days a week. Pre-booking will be required and slots are now available for July and August and September.  Scroll to the bottom of this page for the links to book your arrival slot at each of our attractions.

The information below is for Vindolanda Fort & Museum and the Roman Army Museum

To enable us to maintain social distancing the following arrangements in place for access to the Roman Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum:

  • Pre-booking your arrival time is required along with pre-purchasing your tickets. You only need to book 1 arrival slot per group visiting.
  • Check-in with our staff at the admission building showing your pre-purchased tickets before accessing the site/museum(s).
  • We have new signage in place.
  • One way systems are in place around our museums, please continue to respect social distancing at all times.
  • Take away food and drinks are available.
  • Toilet facilities are available.
  • Please leave your pets at home, assistance dogs only allowed on the site.
  • Our car parks are for the use of our visitors only.

Booking slots for Vindolanda Fort & Museum and the Roman Army Museum are available now. Click on the images below to book. Remember you need to book for both museums separately, the drive time between the two sites is c. 15 minutes.

Please book 1 slot per group of up to 5 people. If your group is more than 5 please book a second slot.
