Visit us Accessible Vindolanda Trust At the Vindolanda Trust, we believe in history and archaeology for all. Ever since our foundation we have been working tirelessly to make our sites more accessible. Pictured (centre) Brynn Hauxwell at the Jubilee Beacon lighting event at Vindolanda in 2022 For example: At Roman Vindolanda we installed SureSet paths which allow wheelchair and mobility scooter users to explore more of the archaeological remains. Both our museums are free of architectural barriers and have ample disabled car park and services. Both our cafes cater for food intolerances and allergies: if you are in doubt about yours, give us a call. At Roman Vindolanda, we have installed listening posts with six language options, describing the remains surrounding them and putting them in context. We have undertaken numerous digital projects for those who cannot visit in person. For example, take a look at our digital exhibition Digging Up Memories. At both sites, we have gender neutral baby changing facilities, and you are welcome to breastfeed wherever you feel comfortable. You can find transcripts for most audio at each museum. There is a steep hill between the Vindolanda fort remains and the museum. Please speak to our staff on site or beforehand if you think this may be an issue, they will be happy to provide directions and alternative options for accessing both areas. Our teams at both Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum are trained to help you with your accessibility needs, whatever they may be. We also have an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion. For any questions on accessibility, please email [email protected]. To get in touch with our EDI Champion, for suggestions and feedback, please use the same email address but include within the subject the subject 'FAO EDI Champion.
