The mason’s trowel still has evidence of plaster on it. The mortar is stuck to the left-hand side of the blade, which shows that the user was right-handed. It is the same design as a modern trowel, used for pointing. This small builder’s tool may have been used to plaster the interior walls of buildings at Vindolanda.
