The Vindolanda Trust understands how important it is that young people from all backgrounds have access to archaeology and history. Volunteering on an archaeological excavation is not only great fun, but also a way to learn transferable skills which you will be able to use in further education and in the workplace. To make it easier and more accessible for young people to participate in the Vindolanda Excavations, the Trust offers bursaries places each year.
In 2026, three bursary spaces will be available to participate in the Vindolanda excavations during Period 9: 17th to 28th August.
To be eligible, you need to be between 18 and 25 years of age.
The bursary applications will open on the 1st September and close on the 14th October. Interviews will be held on the 27th October and successful applicants will be notified by the end of October.
