Basket with Keys A beautifully woven basket was found at the bottom of a period 3 drainage ditch (circa 100 -105AD), in 2018. It was probably a fishing basket, and intriguingly contained three iron keys. The basket is still in conservation. Basketry was a common craft in Roman times and wicker work baskets were used for a multitude of everyday purposes. Digging up memories and making connections ‘Was there anything in the basket?’ Sonya remembers the moment this basket was carefully excavated, the incredible state of preservation and the astonishing discovery of what it contained.
