Vindolanda Wood: Gold detail fountain pen

Hold a piece of history

A unique hand crafted fountain pen made from 2,000 year old oak.

Some of the larger wooden rampart rafts, uncovered during the excavation of the deep anaerobic layers at Vindolanda, are not conservable and after carefully recording these pieces in situ and sampling the wood they would normally be recycled as part of the backfill of the site. Now local craftsman David Wayper has been able to create a bespoke range of Vindolanda souvenirs which are made using some of this 2,000 year old oak. All the proceeds from the sale of these items goes directly back to supporting the ongoing excavation and conservation programme.

Due to the nature of the wood used every pen is unique and colour may vary slightly depending on the size and condition of the original piece of wood.  Each pen has the signature engraving of V in the pen lid.

Each pen comes in a presentation gift box and includes a refillable ink cartridge.
