Vindolanda Wood Engraved Pendant

Wear a piece of history

A unique handmade necklace made from 2,000 year old oak.

Large planks and beams uncovered during the excavation of the deep anaerobic layers at Vindolanda are not conservable and after carefully recording these pieces they would normally be re-used as part of the backfill of the site.

Now local craftsman David Wayper has been able to create a bespoke range of Vindolanda souvenirs which are made using some of this 2,000 year old oak.  All the proceeds from the sale of these items goes directly back to supporting the ongoing excavation programme.

This very special necklace has been engraved with the image of our mystery horseman. The original alter carved with this image was uncovered in 2021 and is now on display in the Vindolanda museum.

Vindolanda wood pendant with engraved image.

Due to the nature of the wood used every necklace is unique and colour may vary slightly depending on the size and condition of the original piece of wood.  Each necklace has the signature engraving of V the back of the wood.

The wooden pendant measures 4cm long and comes with a silver snake chain which is 44cm long (18 inches)
