Romans Return To Vindolanda

Join us at Vindolanda on 11th & 12th July 2026 as we welcome back the world-renowned Ermine Street Guard for a weekend of Roman military action, hands-on activities, and living history.

Step into the world of Rome's frontier and experience life as a soldier stationed along Hadrian's Wall.

Roman Soldier School - Think you have what it takes to join the Roman Army? Dress as a Roman soldier, learn military commands, march in formation, and discover the discipline that helped Rome build an empire. A fantastic family activity and a perfect photo opportunity.

Military Displays & Artillery Demonstrations - Watch the Ermine Street Guard bring Roman military training and tactics to life with exciting displays of armour, weaponry, artillery, and battlefield manoeuvres on the fort site.

Roman Encampment - Explore a bustling Roman camp and meet skilled craftspeople demonstrating ancient techniques. See Roman shoemaking in action, have a coin struck, handle replica equipment, and discover the tools and kit a soldier would have carried with him.
