FACT FILE: Child's Skeleton Vindolanda site, summer 2010 BURIAL SITE: Roman Barrack block in the north west quadrant of the fort DATE OF FIND SITE: AD 213-220 AGE: 8-11 years HEIGHT: 4.5 ft. or 1.4 m INJURIES: None EVIDENCE OF ILL HEALTH: None OTHER SCIENTIFIC DATA: Lead isotope analysis on teeth showed that this was a person living in the Mediterranean till the age of 7 What is unknown: BOY OR GIRL: Unknown, but more likely to be a girl RELATED FINDS: There were no related finds such as studs for shoes or brooches for fastening to clothing (cloth and leather do not survive in these conditions) UNKNOWN: Who the person was or who killed them, but it was illegal to bury a body inside the settlement and without proper religious ceremony in Roman times and we can assume that it was not well-known that the body was buried there.
