Archive Volunteer Application Form

We are recruiting for a small number of volunteers to join us as we begin an exciting new project at the Vindolanda Trust – starting work on the Trust’s archival collections. Volunteers in this team will have the opportunity to get up-close with our archival material.

Tasks will generally involve helping to digitise collections (especially photographs), re-housing materials into appropriate storage and aiding the creation of finding aids. A base level of computer literacy is essential, as is a willingness to learn how to operate new technology, such as scanners, and new software, such as our cataloguing database. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel would be of benefit, but knowledge of formulas will not be required. Previous archival experience is not necessary but would be of benefit.

Volunteers will work at Chesterholm Museum, will need the ability to commit to a regular working pattern of 1-2 days a week and to travel independently to and from site. These volunteer posts will initially run for a period of one year, with a review process at the end of this period with a possibility of extension.
