Vindolanda Wood: Teacher's Pen

Hold a piece of history

Some of the larger wooden rafts, planks and beams uncovered during the excavation of the deep anaerobic layers at Vindolanda are not conservable and after recording these pieces they would normally be re-used as part of the backfill of the site.

Now local craftsman David Wayper has been able to created a bespoke range of Vindolanda souvenirs which are made using some of this 2,000 year old oak.  All the proceeds from the sale of these items goes directly back to supporting the ongoing excavation programme.

Due to the nature of the wood used every pen is unique and colour may vary slightly depending on the size and condition of the original piece of wood.  Each pen has the signature engraving of V in the pen lid.

The Teacher's Pen measures 15cm long and has both a red and a black ballpoint nib, one at each end, perfect for marking!
