Vindolanda Wood Sketch Pencil

Hold a piece of history

A unique hand crafted sketch pencil made from 2,000 year old oak.

Some of the larger wooden rafts uncovered during the excavation of the deep anaerobic layers at Vindolanda are not conservable and after careful recording these pieces would normally be re-used as part of the backfill of the site.

Now local craftsman David Wayper has been able to create a bespoke range of Vindolanda souvenirs which are made using some of this 2,000 year old oak.  All the proceeds from the sale of these items goes directly back to supporting the ongoing excavation programme.

The sketch pencil comes with two additional replacement graphite rods.

Due to the nature of the wood used every pencil is unique and the colour varies depending on the size and condition of the original piece of wood. Each pencil has the signature V engraved in it.
