On Thursday 2nd June we will join communities across the full length of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage Site honouring Queen Elizabeth II by lighting a beacon.

While celebrations are taking place throughout the whole of the UK the Hadrian's Wall beacons have been given special dispensation to be lit later than the rest of the country at 10pm, in recognition of the scale and importance of the wall to the night's celebrations, and its very own big 1900 birthday.

This is a community event and we will be opening the Vindolanda site (excluding the museum and gardens) from 8pm.

Dusk tours of the fort will take place between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.

The beacon will be lit at 10pm.

Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available.

Please bring a torch.
