As part of the Creating Connections Project funded by the Arts Council England the Vindolanda Trust is looking for Collections Volunteers for a minimum of a year project, spaces are limited. The volunteer role involves supporting an already established team of volunteers, the curator and project officer to undertake an audit of Vindolanda’s entire small finds collection.

 

Tasks may include:

  • Learning to work on the computer with the collections data base Collection Index+
  • Cataloguing artefacts: weighing, measuring, condition checking and describing
  • Digitising artefacts: photographing, scanning drawings and uploading images to the database
  • Identifying and categorising artefacts
  • Getting involved with community engagement (desirable)

 

The role would be best suitable if you are

  • able to commit to a minimum of a year to the project, and can typically come to Vindolanda one day a week
  • happy to work in a team and are willing to learn new skills from an already established volunteer team and members of staff
  • able to bring meticulous attention to detail and awareness of the responsibilities in handling artefacts
  • flexible and adaptable
  • happy to persevere through challenges
  • are prepared to abide by and follow the values of the Vindolanda Trust.
