This May 24th-30th I will be walking the length of Hadrian's Wall to raise funds towards the Pottery Appeal.

So many people at Vindolanda have been inspirational to me over a great many years and I want to be able to give something back. I’m 78 years old and have been coming to this site as a volunteer for the last 19 years.

Vindolanda is not only a wonderful archaeological site but also a place that through the volunteer programme brings people together to undertake a common purpose and I’ve developed so many wonderful friendships as a result. I’m not getting any younger and this is an opportunity to challenge myself and hopefully raise to money towards something I have become so passionate about.

Every volunteer who comes to Vindolanda engages with the pottery collection. They always find it, they wash it, they smile at the decorated samian and are in awe when a piece comes out of the earth complete after nearly 2,000 years of being buried. I am passionate about pottery and want to help fund the research.

This project will help us to understand a huge part of the history of the sites. The walk will take place on 24th May starting at Bowness on Solway and I hope to raise £5,000.

Thank you for reading this and please sponsor me if you can, it is greatly appreciated.

If you would like to join me on any of the sections of the walk I'll be setting off at 10am each day -I'll be wearing a Vindolanda excavation t-shirt, I've got quite a collection of them over the last 19 years!
