Events Workshops Potted History Oil Lamps and Deities Workshop Across the Roman Empire factories, mass produced moulded ceramic objects in vast numbers. Probably most notable among these are the pottery oil lamps and deity figurines found on almost every Roman archaeological site and in this respect Vindolanda is no exception. In this half day course, you will learn about the manufacturing methods employed by Roman craftsmen and create your own Roman goddess figurine, a small Lararium or household shrine and a fully functioning Roman oil lamp. Maxium 8 people per session - book early to avoid disappointment! Graham Taylor is a potter, experimental archaeologist and ancient pottery technology specialist, based in Rothbury, Northumberland. He has worked with the Vindolanda trust for a few of years and runs workshops, demonstrations and has built a working replica Roman kiln in our gardens.
