Vindolanda Stonemason Vacancy

We are looking for a personable, independent and reliable person with a keen interest in working in the heritage landscape. It is preferable that the candidate has previous experience either in the building trade and or specific experience working with lime mortars. As part of the Vindolanda team the candidate needs to have a ‘can do attitude’ to undertake various aspects of the work, be comfortable working outdoors and have good communication skills. The candidate will work under the supervision of the Director of excavations

  • Closing date for applications 13th of July 2018
  • Interviews will take place at Vindolanda on the 20th of July 2018
  • Start date (by agreement): 13th of August 2018
       

                  

The successful post holder will join a dedicated archaeological and estate management team and work with the Director of Excavations to deliver the Vindolanda Trusts consolidation programme to consolidate and preserve the ancient remains at the site of Vindolanda and the nearby fort of Carvoran, adjacent to the Roman Army Museum.

The Vindolanda estate consists of two museums, a substantial Northumbrian farm steading and several research, accommodation and open-air museum buildings.

Do you want to share your enthusiasm with others?

Would you like to get hands on experience with objects from Roman Vindolanda, some almost 2000 years old?

Join our volunteering team and become part of the Vindolanda experience.

 Vindolanda Heritage Volunteer Guides

The Vindolanda Trust is looking for volunteers to join its heritage guiding team. This programme, now running for its seventh season has been very successful for the guides and the visiting public.

The volunteers deliver two 45 minute guided tour around the Vindolanda site each day (mostly Saturdays and Sundays) we ask for a commitment of at least 8 days per season (April-September).

Vindolanda Object Handling Volunteers

During the school holidays, our Object Handling volunteers interact with the visitor explaining different type of finds such as pottery and animal bones and putting the real artefacts into the visitors’ hands. You will be working with a small team of experienced volunteers.
