Take That And Dig!

They may be one of the most popular boy bands in the world but tickets to excavate at Vindolanda in the central section of Hadrian’s Wall sell just as fast!  Every year, at the beginning of November, the Vindolanda Charitable Trust opens its books to the following summer's excavation slots and every year every slot is taken within three hours! These five day super digs are week long educational vacations held at Vindolanda for up and coming archaeologists and people interested in digging up a little bit of Rome.  People come from around the world for the chance to excavate in one of Europe's most exciting archaeological sites.

Dr Andrew Birley, Director of Excavations, said “every year we are amazed at the level of demand from people that want to come and dig here at Vindolanda. Many come back time and again because they get this place in their blood.  You just don’t know what you might come across in your week of the dig.  We have had volunteers find some remarkable objects over the years, from coins, jewellery and pottery to a child's skeleton.  What a great story to tell your friends and family!"

If you want to get on the list for the hottest tickets in town sign up to receive the Vindolanda e-newsletter.
