The Vindolanda Trust was founded in 1970 to excavate and preserve the Roman remains associated with the land owned by the Trust. In 1972 the Trust acquired the 'sister' Roman site of Carvoran, 8 miles to the west, and since Jan. 1997 the Trust has administered the Roman Army Museum, adjacent to its Carvoran property. The Trust is fully committed to a programme of excellence in the areas of research, education and the public display of the monument and finds from the Vindolanda excavations. The country house of Chesterholm, which lies in the charming gardens near to the excavation site, provides a secure home for the conservation, documentation and display of the superb and unique Vindolanda collection. Chesterholm Museum is also a base for the Trust's research, publication and student training programmes. We are grateful to the 100,000 plus visitors per year who support the aims of the Trust by enjoying a day out at Roman Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum. ![]() |
